The 2 Most Important Things You Will Ever Buy

I know the two most important things you will EVER buy in your life.

Do you know what they are?

Think about this for a moment:

You win $10 million in the lottery. WOO - you’re rich, girl!

What’s the first thing you buy?

Maybe a fancy new car? Shopping spree? Luxury trip to Europe? A new house? Pay off all your debt?

These are all great options, but they’re not the most important.

The two most important things you will ever buy are: time and health.

I know what you’re thinking: time?? That’s very woo-woo and sounds way less fun than a new car.

But think about it for a moment. Time and health are the two things in life that you can NEVER get back. Ever.

If you crash your car, you can buy a new one (theoretically). You can take another vacation, pay off your debt later, and buy that designer purse another time.

But once it’s gone, you will never get back your time or your health.

So if you had $10 million - how would you use your money to maximize your time and health?

time and health are the two most important things you will ever buy

Time

I know this is a little abstract. But hang in here with me for a moment.

If you had $10 million you could basically do anything you want. So, first, what would you NOT do?

I’m guessing you would not:

  • Work a job you hate

  • Sit in traffic to commute to the office

  • Book the flight with 3 layovers just because it was cheaper

  • Clean your own toilets

  • Do your own grocery shopping

No one with $10 million is going to clean their own toilets. It’s a gross chore and if you can pay someone else to do it, you will. You buy back the 10 minutes it takes to clean the toilet, plus the days ahead of cleaning that you spend dreading and avoiding it.

If you had $10 million, you no longer have to work for money. Would you spend 2 hours commuting per day to spend 8 hours at a job you hate? Nope!

You’ve earned back ten hours every day!! What would you do with them?

what would you do with your time if you didn't have to work for money?

What’s something that you’ve always wanted to do, but never had the time?

Travel more?

Spend a few months living in a different city?

Take up woodworking?

Start an Etsy shop for your homemade quilts?

Volunteer for a charity?

If you no longer had to work for money, your life would open into a stream of endless possibilities. You own your time.

Health

Health is the second thing that, once gone, we can never get back. You should do everything you can to protect your health, even if that means spending extra money.

If you had $10 million you could afford:

  • The organic food at the supermarket

  • To hire a personal trainer to get into shape

  • To pay the MRI bills to check out those weird headaches you get sometimes

  • Your own exercise equipment so you don’t have to go to the gym

  • The expensive skin care products that make your skin luminous

  • To finally make an appointment with a therapist

  • The $5,000 customized mattress so you can actually get a good night of sleep

Heck, you can even hire a personal chef to make you delicious, healthy meals every night for dinner!

You could have all the money in the world, but if you don’t have your health you will never enjoy it.

Final Thoughts

Money can buy a lot of things, but the most important things you will ever buy are your time and your health.

Maybe you don’t have $10 million, and maybe you never will, but you CAN use the money you have today to start making changes in your life.

how can you prioritize your time and health, using the money you have today?

What would it look like if you started prioritizing your time and health?

How can you use money to buy back your time?

How can you use money to support your health?

Action Items

  1. Imagine for a moment that you did have $10 million - what would you change about your life? Are there any of those changes that you could start to implement today?

  2. How can you use your money to buy back your time?

  3. How can you use your money to support your health?

Your life may not be perfect, but it is imperfectly yours. The only way to live it is your way.
